Caitlyn Jenner was born William Bruce Jenner on October 28, 1949 in Mount Kisco, N.Y. In her youth, she divided her time between upstate New York and Connecticut before attending college at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa as a track star. In 1972, she made the U.S. Olympic team as one of the two decathletes at the Munich Olympics, where she finished in 10th place.
Using that as her motivation, Jenner trained day and night for the next four years, and in 1976 at the Montreal Olympics she won the gold medal and set a new American record in the decathlon that stood for the next 15 years. Jenner immediately became a national hero and the face of the 1976 Olympics. After the Olympic games, she retired from track and field and began working in media.
Using her newfound athletic fame, Jenner became the official spokesperson for Wheaties, appearing on the front of the cereal box for the next eight years. She also became a spokesperson Tropicana and many other brands. She also appeared as herself in a number of TV show shows throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s.
An Olympic legend and TV personality, Jenner began dating Kris Kardashian in late 1990. The two later wed in April 1991. It was Jenner’s third marriage and Kardashian’s second.
Both had children from their previous marriages. Caitlyn has son Burt and daughter Casey with her first wife, Chrystie Scott, and sons Brandon and Brody with her second wife, Linda Thompson. Kris also brought four children into the marriage: daughters Kourtney, Kim and Khloe and son Rob. Caitlyn and Kris would go on to have two daughters together, Kendall and Kylie Jenner. The couple went on to divorce in 2015.
In 2007, the Kardashians and Jenner sisters became household names when E! Television began airing “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.” The show was an instant success and has aired hundreds of episodes and produced multiple spinoffs in the years since its debut. The series made huge stars out all of the family members, including Jenner.
In 2015, after rumors began to spread about her plan to transition, Jenner came out as a transgender woman in an interview with Diane Sawyer. She later announced her new name, Caitlyn Marie Jenner. Now an advocate for the LGBTQ community, Jenner also starred in her very own reality show, “I Am Cait.” She also published an autobiography in 2017, “The Secrets Of My Life.”
