Sylvester Stallone is not campaigning for an Oscar for his new movie, Rambo: Last Blood, as a tabloid is alleging this week. Gossip Cop can debunk the story. It’s totally fabricated.

A headline in this week’s OK! reads, “Sly Gunning For An Oscar.” The article says Stallone believes he deserves an Academy Award for his performance in the fifth and presumably final installment of the Rambo series. A so-called “source” tells the publication, “Sly feels like his performance in this film is one of the most extreme and impressive of his career. So he’s been hitting up all his A-List buddies, like Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, to show them the movie and get people talking.”

The outlet’s “insider” also believes Stallone has a “real shot” of winning Best Actor, adding, “It’s a very intense movie and totally worthy of Sly’s legacy. He really put in the time and effort to make his performance in this film the best in the series – and it shows.” Whether Rambo: Last Blood is the best film in the series is up for discussion, as is Stallone’s performance, but the idea that he feels entitled to an Oscar is totally false.

Although there’s no question Stallone is proud of the film and the series that he has starred in and co-written over the past 37  years, the Academy Awards are not a thought in his mind. The magazine’s premise is coming from an anonymous “insider,” but Gossip Cop checked with Stallone’s spokesperson, who tells us on the record that the article is both “fabricated” and “ridiculous.”

As awards season approaches, we can probably expect more stories like this from the tabloids. Just last week, OK!’s sister publication, Star, published a report claiming Jennifer Lopez was already working on an Oscars acceptance speech for her role in Hustlers, despite nominations not being announced until January of next year. While the singer and actress is receiving strong reviews for her performance, she isn’t counting any chickens before they’re hatched.

Similar narratives have cropped up in the past. In January 2018, OK! falsely claimed Angelina Jolie was furious over getting “snubbed” for an Oscar nomination for her film First They Killed My Father. The film was never made with the intention of garnering awards. It was a project close to Jolie’s heart, about the Cambodian genocide under the Khmer Rouge regime. The actress was inspired to make the film because her adopted son Maddox is Cambodian. This latest claim that Stallone believes he deserves an Oscar for Rambo: Last Blood is equally baseless.
