Stephen Colbert is currently in Russia filming a segment for “The Late Show,” but the talk show host has additional plans while visiting the country. On Thursday, Colbert tweeted a response to President Donald Trump’s acknowledgement he has no tapes of fired FBI director James Comey by offering to look for copies overseas.

Of course, Trump seemingly hinted last month he had secretly recorded his conversations with Comey, but the president clarified Thursday on Twitter, “With all of the recently reported electronic surveillance, intercepts, unmasking and illegal leaking of information, I have no idea whether there are ‘tapes’ or recordings of my conversations with James Comey, but I did not make, and do not have, any such recordings.” Shortly later, Colbert tweeted a photo of himself in Russia, along with the caption, “Don’t worry, Mr. President. I’m in Russia. If the ‘tapes’ exist, I’ll bring you back a copy!”

Colbert is in Russia on assignment for a future episode of his late night show. It’s unknown what the host’s segment in the country will entail, but it will presumably be related to Trump’s alleged ties to the nation, as well as the possibility Russia interfered in the 2016 election. Last year, the “Late Show” host traveled to Philadelphia and Cleveland for a week of live episodes from the Democratic and Republican National Conventions.

As Gossip Cop reported, Colbert was among the many late night hosts who joked about Comey’s hearing before the Senate Intelligence Committee earlier this month. The talk show host opened his show by doctoring footage of Comey’s hearing to make it look as if he were one of the senators present. Colbert asked a series of absurd questions, followed by the former FBI director’s actual responses spliced in. The host then kicked off his monologue by declaring, “Happy St. Comey’s Day everybody! Of course, everyone celebrates Comey Day in their own way. We’re kind of traditionalists around here. We celebrated by watching TV and writing jokes as fast as we can.” Check out Colbert’s photo from Russia below.
