Solange is not “betraying” Beyonce and Jay-Z by appearing in a Helmut Lang fashion campaign that also happens to feature Kanye West, despite a speculative claim. Gossip Cop can bust this absurd report.
This week, Helmut Lang unveiled new photos that were taken as part of Ari Versluis and Ellie Uyttenbroek’s ongoing “Exactitudes” project. Since 1994, the pair have been capturing the “striking dress codes of various social groups.” To celebrate “cross-generational Helmut Lang collectors and fans,” the clothing brand, along with its “editor-in-residence” Isabella Burley, teamed up with the photographers for the latest installment in the photo series. A dozen people are featured in the spread, which consists of them posing individually. The separate pictures are then combined to make a single image (see below).
So, here’s how HollywoodLife is ridiculously spinning it: “We don’t know what to think about this. Solange and Kanye West are both in Helmut Lang’s new campaign, which is weird since Beyonce and Jay-Z have beef with ‘Ye.” The webloid deems it “daring” that both Solange and West appear, and contends, “It does seem pretty off that Solange would work alongside Kanye considering the feud he has going on with her brother-in-law Jay-Z and sister Beyonce.”
“While the campaign itself is beyond cool, we can’t help but wonder how the Carters must feel about it,” the site further asserts, before contradicting its main premise by contemplating, “While Solange working with the ‘Gold Digger’ rapper could be a betrayal to the couple, it might also be yet another sign that they’ve all squashed the beef.” Adds the blog, “Whatever the campaign means, it sure looks cool!”
Uh, it’s clear what “the campaign means.” It’s explained right on Helmut Lang’s Instagram, where it’s stated, “Established in 1994, Exactitudes is an ongoing photographic project by Ari Versluis and Ellie Uyttenbroek focused on documenting underground subcultures and global communities. To celebrate Helmut Lang Re-Edition, @isabellaburley invited Exactitudes to capture cross-generational Helmut Lang collectors and fans wearing Volumes 1 and 2, marking their first collaboration with a brand.” The purpose of the project is perfectly clear.
And while the photos were snapped in New York, there is no evidence that Solange and West crossed paths during the creation of the pictures. Regardless, the notion that Solange “betrayed” her family by being one of 12 people in a photo shoot that happened to also featured West is inane. Though the two rappers have had their ups and downs in recent years, Jay-Z spoke in November about his intention to reconcile with West, and even revealed that he just spoke to him “the other day.”
“He’s my brother… I love Kanye,” Jay-Z told The New York Times, adding, “We gonna always be good.” So why would he be bothered by his sister-in-law appearing in the same photo shoot as him? HollywoodLies, as it’s known, is looking to make drama where none exists by sensationalizing a non-scandalous photo. Of course, this isn’t the first time the blog has tried to cause trouble for the pals.
In November, we busted the outlet for making-up a story about West being “infuriated” Jay-Z and Beyonce supposedly weren’t treating Kim Kardashian with respect. It was totally bogus, as is this take on the benign Helmut Lang campaign.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
