The cold open of “SNL” mocked the government shutdown and the president’s physical. In the sketch, Donald Trump’s physician basically painted the president as the most fit physically and mentally person ever, but the press wasn’t having it. Watch the “Saturday Night Live” video below.

As widely reported, the government shut down at midnight on Friday after the Senate failed to vote for a way to continue funding various services. Negotiations continued on Saturday, but seemingly no progress was made. Until a budget can be agreed upon, thousands of government employees will be on unpaid furlough and a number of agencies and departments will be closed.

And while the 1.3 million members of the military will have to work without pay, they will of course remain on duty and continue protecting the country. Other personnel, however, will not be returning to work on Monday and places like national parks, museums and zoos will be closed. Postal employees, as well as those who work for the Transportation Security Administration and air traffic control, will not be affected by the government shutdown.

Naturally, both the Democrats and Republicans are blaming each other. The Republicans claim the Democrats derailed the budget negotiations by trying to make GOP lawmakers agree first to several outstanding immigration issues. Meanwhile, the White House has said that programs, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), will not be discussed until after the shutdown is resolved.

And while this is not exactly funny stuff, it’s precisely the type of political wrangling that “SNL” likes to tackle. Last week, the sketch comedy show returned from a three-week break to mock President Trump calling Haiti and several sub-Saharan African nations “s**thole countries.” The late-night comedy show’s cold open also had former cast members Fred Armisen and Bill Murray return to portray Fire & Fury author Michael Wolff and former presidential advisor Steve Bannon, respectively.

Watch the video below of this week’s “Saturday Night Live” cold open in which the latest government shutdown and the president’s physical was mocked.
