SNL Donald Trump Open

The cold open of “SNL” mocked Donald Trump’s refusal to take Australian refugees and telling the Mexican president to prepare to go to war. Alec Baldwin returned to the show to play the president accompanied by Steve Bannon as the grim reaper. Watch the “Saturday Night Live” video below.

As Gossip Cop has reported, “SNL” has opened each of its 13 shows this season with or referencing Trump. The last show two weeks ago began with Vladimir Putin taunting the president over the inauguration’s relatively small attendance. After congratulating Trump for attracting so many to his swearing in, Putin cracked, “Oh sorry, that was the women’s protest.” The Russian president also told Americans not to worry about a Trump presidency. “We’ll take care of America,” he said, adding, “It’s the most expensive thing we’ve bought.”

In the past, “SNL” has kicked off its program spoofing the presidential debates between Clinton and Trump, the real estate mogul’s leaked audio with Billy Bush, and the two candidates for president trying to avoid answering embarrassing questions during a CNN interview. And after Trump was elected, the sketch comedy series went in a different direction, opening its show with Kate McKinnon as Hillary Clinton singing “Hallelujah.”

Three weeks ago, “SNL” mocked Trump’s press conference in which he said BuzzFeed was a “failing pile of garbage” and called CNN “fake news.” For the most part, the jokes focused on Trump and “Golden Showers.” Baldwin’s Trump promised he’ll create a a “steady stream” of jobs, “golden” opportunities for all citizen, and make a “splash” as president.
