SNL Cold Open Trump Flynn

The cold open of “SNL” began by mocking Donald Trump’s connection to Michael Flynn, who pled guilty to lying to the F.B.I. about his conversations with the Russians before the president’s inauguration. The ghost of Flynn visited Trump and told him he’d visited by three people from the past, present and future. From the past was Billy Bush. From the present was Vladimir Putin. And from the future he was haunted by Hillary Clinton. Watch the “Saturday Night Live” video below.

Alec Baldwin returned to open the sketch comedy show after having sat out the last two episodes. But even without Baldwin’s Trump, the previous cold opens were still political in nature. The last “Saturday Night Live” took aim at Donald Trump Jr.’s possible connection to Julian Assange, who’s WikiLeaks released damaging emails involving Hillary Clinton during the 2016 election.

And before that, the “SNL” cold open went after Roy Moore, the Alabama politician who’s been accused of having sexual encounters with teens. In that sketch, Vice President Mike Pence tells Moore that he needs to “do the right thing,” meaning drop out of the election to fill Jeff Sessions’ vacant senate seat. But Moore replies, “All right, if everybody thinks I did it, I’ll marry her.”

As noted above, with the exception of a few episodes, Baldwin has gleefully kicked of the opening of “Saturday Night Live” practically every show last year and the majority of this season. He poked fun of the president’s handling of North Korea and the recovery in Puerto Rico during the season premiere. And he returned the next week for a bit about ordering Vice President Mike Pence to leave an Indianapolis Colt game because its opposing players took a knee during the National Anthem. Additionally, Baldwin’s Trump came back for a cold open that had him and Pence showering with Paul Manafort after the former presidential aide was indicted on tax fraud and money laundering charges in the Mueller probe.
