Is “Saturday Night Live” creator Lorne Michaels angry about members of the sketch show’s cast and crew hooking up with celebrity guest hosts? That’s the claim in one of this week’s new tabloids, but Gossip Cop has the truth.

In reference to the rumored romance between Scarlett Johansson and “Weekend Update” anchor Colin Jost, as well the coupling of Ben Affleck and “SNL” producer Lindsay Shookus, the National Enquirer claims in a series of clearly made-up quotes that Michaels is disturbed by the recent on-set hookups. A supposed “source” tells the magazine, “This is getting ridiculous. ‘SNL’ is a comedy show, not a celebrity-dating app. The staff needs to knock it off.”

But Gossip Cop checked in with a higher-up at the NBC show, who exclusively assures us Michaels isn’t concerned with behind-the-scenes relationships, and the tabloid’s claim otherwise is simply “not true.” Additionally, the recent hookups clearly haven’t hurt the cast and crew’s job performance, as the comedy show’s latest season just received 22 Emmy nominations, the most in its history.

It should also be noted, Michaels himself isn’t adverse to meeting romantic partners at work. The legendary producer has been married to his former assistant Alice Barry since 1991. Prior to that, he was married to “SNL” writer Rosie Shuster for nearly a decade. It seems whoever manufactured this absurd story didn’t even bother to do a modicum of fact-checking.

This also isn’t the first time we’ve had to debunk fake news surrounding the “SNL” producer supposedly taking an interest in a celebrity guests’s personal life. Gossip Cop previously busted the Enquirer’s sister publication, Star, when it wrongly reported Michaels staged an intervention for Miley Cyrus after she hosted the show in 2015. There was no truth to that story, and this latest one is equally false.
