Shawn Mendes will 100 percent be performing on this week’s “Saturday Night Live,” despite an alarmist report that wrongly hints he might not “be well enough” to take the stage at Studio 8H. Gossip Cop can exclusively correct this exaggerated claim. A rep for “SNL” assures us the suggestion of Mendes not being able to sing is “not true.”

According to the repeatedly discredited HollywoodLife, after Mendes was “too sick to travel” across the country to perform at the Jingle Ball in San Jose on Thursday night, there’s now a question about whether “he’ll have to bow out of ‘Saturday Night Live’ on Dec. 3, too.” A couple of days ago, Mendes had tweeted, “To my fans in the Bay Area, unfortunately I’m unable to perform at the iHeart Radio Jingle Ball in San Jose,” adding, “I planned to fly to San Jose today, but am sick & doctors have told me I am unable to travel or perform. I am gutted and so sorry, and I will make it up to you.”

That’s when the unreliable webloid went into full fabrication mode and manufactured its latest tripe. “There’s been no update regarding whether or not he’ll be well enough to fulfill that obligation [to perform on ‘SNL’], but we can imagine Shawn’s doing everything he can to make it happen,” write the outlet. There was no “update” because there doesn’t need to be one.

Mendes will be making his “SNL” debut on Saturday, and there was never any doubt he wouldn’t hit the stage until HollywoodLies concocted its latest article. Of course, the webloid seemingly wanted to publish this purposely deceptive piece. Otherwise, they would have fact-checked their (made-up) claim. For full disclosure, it took Gossip Cop a total of 45 seconds to bust the outlet’s untrue tale. Moments after reaching out for a comment, a “Saturday Night Live” rep exclusively told Gossip Cop that the site’s story was “not true,” and confirmed Mendes “will be here.”
