A new website story claims to know why Selena Gomez “shouldn’t worry” that Justin Bieber and Kourtney Kardashian supposedly “still talk.” Not only was this made-up, but Gossip Cop even predicted that such a story would be manufactured. Now we can bust it.
On Wednesday, HollywoodLife picked up claims from the new issue of In Touch about Bieber and Kardashian engaging in “flirty texting” after supposedly reconnecting earlier this month while on separate ski trips in Park City, Utah. Though the site didn’t know if the allegations were accurate, it still regurgitated them and wondered if there was “trouble in paradise” for Bieber and Gomez. Readers were even asked, “Do you think Jelena are having trouble?”
Our bust focused on two main points. First off, although Bieber and Kardashian were in the same city, they have not been “flirty texting.” The claims had no merit. Second, we also explained that if the blog really had “sources” and “insiders,” as it so often purports when it comes to these three stars, it should’ve been able to immediately fact-check the contentions and find out the truth. But instead HollywoodLies, as it’s known, copied the assertions and threw in “reportedly” and “allegedly.”
And, as seen in the screengrab below, Gossip Cop concluded by warning readers that while the outlet was currently clueless on this matter, it was likely that at some time later, HollywoodLies would suddenly pretend to have “exclusive” insight. Well, lo and behold, after posting its first story at 1:31 p.m. Eastern, the made-up follow-up came at 10:03 p.m. See screengrabs of the two headlines below.
So, what is the online publication now claiming? Well, after first suggesting Kardashian was coming in-between Bieber and Gomez, the second story begins by asserting, “Don’t worry, Selena Gomez! Justin Bieber and Kourtney Kardashian are just friends!” A so-called “source close to Kourtney” is quoted as saying that although she and Bieber “still talk every once in a while,” she “only has eyes for Younes Bendjima.” This alleged snitch also asserts about the singer, “There’s nothing romantic between them anymore, that ended when she got serious with Younes.”
There are two obvious problems with these statements that prove they’re illegitimate. One, no real person would say “Younes Bendjima” in conversation like that. He would just be referenced by his first name. Second, Kardashian and Bieber’s romantic connection didn’t only end “when she got serious with Younes.” Bieber and Kardashian were casually hooking up on and off in 2015 and 2016, and their fling ended long before Bendjima even entered the picture. The “KUWTK” star and the model didn’t become involved until the early spring of 2017.
So, what’s really going on? Quite simply, HollywoodLies is trying to capitalize on a false tabloid report. But it is only adding more misinformation into the mix, and inauthentic information at that. No Kardashian “source” spoke to the blog about Bieber, Gomez and Bendjima. If the site really had such a reliable contact, it would’ve known from the start that Gomez “shouldn’t worry.” But the outlet did exactly what Gossip Cop predicted it would: It made-up a story. And we won’t be shocked in the least if more phony tales follow.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
