Is Selena Gomez spying on The Weeknd? A report claims she secretly had her boyfriend watched at Coachella to make sure he didn’t cheat. Gossip Cop looked into the claim, and can reveal the truth.
“Selena Spies On The Weeknd,” reads the headline in Star, which alleges the singer-actress “secretly hired a groupie guard to shadow” the performer at last month’s music festival, making sure he kept his “hands to himself.” A so-called “source” claims to the tabloid that Gomez was “so scared” he “would cheat on her” that she “paid a woman in plainclothes” to not only “spy on him,” but also “keep his female fans far away.”
The gossip magazine and its supposed snitch go on to bad-mouth Gomez, alleging it was this “possessiveness” that “contributed” to her breakup with Justin Bieber. “Selena clearly still has a lot of work to do when it comes to trust issues,” asserts the outlet’s purported tipster. Gossip Cop would argue, however, that this publication still has a lot of work to do when it comes to truth-telling.
The article conveniently fails to mention that Gomez was WITH The Weeknd at Coachella. If she was keeping him company at the event, why would a “spy” be needed to watch his behavior? And, as ridiculous as it sounds, the magazine doesn’t say how this “guard” would manage to keep fans away, anyway. Additionally, if Gomez is so concerned about the singer straying, wouldn’t she have a “spy” following him on his current tour, too? Tellingly, there’s nothing said about that either.
Those are just a few of the reasons this tale doesn’t make much sense and comes off as made up. It’s also noteworthy that Star published this piece the same week its sister outlet, OK!, claimed Gomez and The Weeknd were engaged after he professed his love for her at Coachella. Yet this story makes no mention of Gomez’s presence, and accuses of her of having him followed at the festival.
It’s not unusual for both outlets to lie, but it’s quite remarkable that their stories are so contradictory, even if both are false. And just like the engagement report, this spying article is untrue, too, Gossip Cop is told by insiders close to the couple. Gossip Cop understands that Gomez and The Weeknd are one of the year’s hot new pairings, but fans should be aware that much of what is written about them is fake news, and this is just the latest example.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
