Selena Gomez and The Weeknd have split after nearly a year of dating. The breakup comes amid Gomez’s rekindled friendship with Justin Bieber. But the former couple has not reunited romantically.

As Gossip Cop has reported, Gomez and The Weeknd connected in late 2016. Their relationship didn’t go public until early January, when they were photographed engaging in PDA outside a restaurant. Since that outing, the two performers weren’t shy about being affectionate both in the United States and on trips abroad. They also occasionally posted photos of one another on social media.

Gomez and The Weeknd made their red carpet debut as a couple at the Met Gala in May. They were not seen together much during the summer, though it was later revealed that the singer-actress was laying low due to a secret kidney transplant. In the early fall, they still appeared to be going strong. They attended events together and Gomez adopted a dog, named Charlie, whom The Weekend posted about online.

Last week, however, questions about the status of their relationship were raised after it emerged Gomez was friendly again with Bieber, whom she had dated on and off for several years. On Sunday, that speculation reached a fever pitch as Bieber and Gomez were seen in public and The Weeknd allegedly stopped following her pals on social media. Now on Monday, it’s been confirmed Gomez and The Weeknd are going their separate ways.

That said, Gossip Cop hears Bieber is not responsible for the breakup. Rather, the challenges of a long-distance relationship, particularly with The Weeknd touring, led both he and Gomez to reconsider their relationship. Gomez and The Weeknd’s breakup was first reported by People. Gossip Cop reached out to reps for an official statement.

Over the course of their romance, Gossip Cop busted several stories misrepresenting the seriousness of the relationship. Earlier this month, for example, we caught HollywoodLife making up a tale about The Weeknd planning to propose. And back in February, just weeks after the now-exes were revealed to be dating, Life & Style fabricated a cover story about Gomez being a “pregnant bride.” The next month, its sister outlet, In Touch, falsely claimed Gomez and The Weeknd were planning a “summer wedding.” Of course, that didn’t happen, just as Gossip Cop said it wouldn’t.
