Selena Gomez is not going to be a judge on "American Idol," despite a report about producers supposedly making her an offer to join the ABC revival of the music competition. Gossip Cop has exclusively confirmed with the star's rep that she has no connection to the show. And this false claim comes from the same webloid Gomez herself once called the "worst."
We're talking about HollywoodLife, of course, which is asserting in a headline, "Will Selena Gomez Be An 'American ldol' Judge? Producers Giving Her An Offer, Says Source." With the "clock ticking" for executives to "find two more judges to join Katy Perry," the site claims it has "EXCLUSIVE details on how producers have their eyes" on Gomez, who is supposedly "at the top of the show producers' wish-list for judges." A so-called "'AI' insider" is quoted as saying, "Producers think that Selena would be great to join the judging panel because she'd bring in a younger crowd for ratings, she'd be considered the nice judge and they would love her to join because the impact she has with social media."
"They are putting together a proposal for her and are hoping she will accept it and join the show, it's a long shot but they are taking the chance to get her. They'd love to have her signed up and all judges by mid October," the outlet's alleged source goes on to claim. So, why did HollywoodLies land such a supposed scoop and not one of the trade outlets or even TMZ, which has been reporting on the ongoing judge negotiations with various celebs? Well, because this isn't a real "exclusive." Based on our investigation, it seems the online publication simply made this story up, just like it has so many others.
A rep for Gomez even tells Gossip Cop, "There's not even been a conversation" about Gomez potentially joining the reality show. And this is exactly why the singer-actress told fans back in 2014, "HollywoodLife is never true. Ever." Don't we know it.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
