Selena Gomez and Niall Horan are not "more than friends" or romantically involved. It's just an old rumor being rehashed by one of the tabloids. Gossip Cop can set the record straight.
OK! Australia first throws in a dig about Gomez "gritting her teeth" through ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber's recent wedding — one of many false claims about the relationship between Gomez and Bieber — before getting into the rumors about her and Horan. Citing Gomez's two recent hangouts with Horan as proof (Gomez brought some food to Horan's house and the two were at the same group dinner later that week), the tabloid pushes the idea that the two are secretly "more than friends." The publication points to past rumors about the two as further evidence of their relationship.
The main sources of insight into the "couple," however, are fan comments on an Instagram photo of the two. For some reason, the tabloid takes fan theories as evidence of the pair's hidden connection. The tabloid does bring up an "insider" for the article's conclusion, though. "She's open to start putting herself out there again," a source tells the magazine, before the outlet adds, "That's if Niall hasn't already snapped her up!"
In reality, however, the two simply aren't dating and both have clarified their friendship in interviews. Gossip Cop already addressed rumors about Horan and Gomez dating back in May. In a recent appearance on Sirius XM, Horan clarified that the two are good friends who hang out all the time and may collaborate on music together — but they're strictly platonic. Having a friend show up with food before hanging out is a pretty benign event that the tabloid felt the need to stretch into this rumor.
Additionally, Gomez addressed the dating rumors back when they started in 2015, at which time she literally laughed off the claims, before saying that they weren't a couple. Nothing seems to have changed since then. E! News, a more reliable source for celebrity information than any tabloid, spoke to a source close to the situation, who revealed what's really going on between Gomez and Horan. "Selena and Niall are not dating and have been hanging out as friends," the source said. "They have always been good friends and have kept in touch throughout the years."
This isn't even the first time OK! has come up with a ridiculous falsehood about Gomez. In February, tabloid falsely accused Gomez of causing Bieber to divorce his wife, Hailey Baldwin, after 129 days of marriage. The magazine also dragged her into a separate story about Bieber and Baldwin last December when it claimed that Gomez was causing a rift between the married couple. The outlet has no idea what's happening in the singer's personal life.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
