Selena Gomez and Niall Horan are not finally dating, nor are they headed in that direction, despite a new report. Gossip Cop can once again debunk this false narrative. We're exclusively told their friendship has not turned romantic.
Under the headline, "Selena & Niall: It's On," Life & Style plays on the title of one of Gomez's songs to call her a "Bad Liar" after having previously denied that she and the former One Direction singer were dating. The often disproven tabloid contends they turned from platonic pals to boyfriend and girlfriend after reconnecting at a mutual acquaintance's wedding in February. In an attempt to make its premise seem more believable, the outlet quotes a supposed "source" as saying Horan and Gomez have "always been close but something changed."
The alleged tipster asserts, "They've been chatting a lot more than usual." After claiming that her friends and family have been "urging her to take it slow," the purported "source" notes how Horan has been "nothing but supportive" of Gomez, which has earned her loved ones' "seal of approval." Glaringly missing, however, is any proof that Gomez and Horan have moved out of the friends zone and into a full-fledge romantic relationship.
While it's accurate that Gomez was at her best friend Courtney Barry's wedding in February, and Horan was a guest as well, the two young musicians are not dating. Gossip Cop checked in with a mutual pal of ours and Gomez's, and we were told in no uncertain terms that the report about her and Horan becoming a couple is "still untrue." This bogus storyline, tying the two singers together romantically, dates back to a fabricated HollywoodLife article from February 2014.
At the time, the habitually discredited website untruthfully maintained Gomez and Horan went on a date and were caught kissing. Of course, that article had no details whatsoever about where or when they supposedly went out and smooched, and no real witnesses or photos ever emerged to back up the story. Still, that same blog continued through 2017 lying about Gomez and Horan dating and splitting up.
Now Life & Style has reheated this fictitious scenario. But a lie repeated is still a lie, and that tabloid certainly has a history of fibbing when it comes to Gomez. For example, back in 2017 the magazine ran a cover story that insisted Gomez was going to be a pregnant bride and marry Justin Bieber in the coming weeks or months.
That was totally wrong, as was another front page article last year that similarly exclaimed "It's On!" and swore up and down how Gomez and Justin Theroux were "more than friends." Much like with the One Direction singer, she also never dated Theroux. Unlike its premise about Horan and Gomez now being "on," once again the gossip magazine is completely off with its tale about them finally dating.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
