Selena Gomez did not lose, and then find, her diary at a Los Angeles gym, despite a report in the tabloids. Gossip Cop can confirm this story was completely made up. In fact, the gossip magazine in question is even misrepresenting the photo of the singer that accompanies the article.

The manufactured piece can be found in the current issue of Star, under the headline, “Freaked Selena Shrieks When Naughty Notes Go Missing.” According to the outlet, Gomez “carries her private journal everywhere and totally freaked when she realized it was missing after a day out and about in L.A.” A so-called “pal” is quoted as saying, “Selena was flipping out, frantically calling every place she could think of, but all searches turned up empty. Desperate, she redialed her gym and begged the staff to take another look.”

Maintains the publication, “Selena nearly fell to her knees with relief when they found her dirty laundry in the dirty laundry, hiding under a heap of towels in the locker room.” It’s alleged Gomez “sobbed” after the diary was found, crying out, “You have no idea the things I’ve written in there!” It’s not explained how the journal supposedly ended up under the used towels, or even why Gomez would have her journal with her at the gym in the first place, if it contains such sensitive information.

But to make its tale believable, the tabloid illustrated the story with a photo of Gomez looking down at a book after a workout. A reader would rationally assume that’s the diary and Gomez had just retrieved it at the gym. In actuality, the photo of Gomez was taken following a hot yoga session a month ago, and the item she’s holding isn’t her personal journal at all. It’s really a book called Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace in His Presence, which is a 365-day devotional.

In other words, Star bought a paparazzi picture of Gomez dressed in fitness gear and holding a religious text, ignored what the book actually was, and made up a completely false story about her losing her diary at a gym. This is part of the magazine’s apparent habit of distorting reality. Last year, for example, Gossip Cop busted the outlet for claiming Gomez “snapped at a fan.” A video, however, clearly showed otherwise. It seems the only thing really lost is the publication’s regard for truth-telling.
