Selena Gomez does not "fear" Justin Bieber is "flirty texting" with Kourtney Kardashian, despite claims that surfaced on Wednesday. This phony narrative started in the tabloids and has already spread online. Gossip Cop can bust the made-up allegations.
According to HollywoodLife, there may be "trouble in paradise" for Bieber and Gomez because she's "reportedly on edge with fear" that he's "[re]connected" with Kardashian. Basing its assertions on an article in In Touch, the webloid contends Gomez started exhibiting "bizarre behavior" after "both Justin and Kourtney were in Park City, Utah." Alleges the site, "Justin and Kourtney reportedly began texting when they both arrived in Utah, which allegedly set Sel off."
The online publication quotes a purported "source" from the gossip magazine as saying, "When Selena and Justin got back together, she made him delete many girls from his phone contacts, and the first name she wanted removed was Kourtney's." Still copying from the print publication, the blog asserts that "the insider went on to claim that Kourtney never deleted Justin's number and that she began talking to him while in Utah." Then, claims the outlet, "After allegedly seeing photos of Justin and Kourtney in the same town, Selena wished she took things a step further by requesting that Justin block Kourtney's number."
HollywoodLies, as it's nicknamed, ultimately concludes by asking readers, "Do you think Jelena are having trouble?" No, they are not having "trouble." But it's telling that the webloid not only picked up this tale, but also looked to fans for answers on what it means for Bieber and Gomez's relationship. Almost every day, the site is claiming it has "sources" and "insiders" close to the pair supplying them with "exclusives." If that was really the case, why didn't the blog go to one of its supposed contacts to find out if there was any merit to these claims?
The reason is two-fold: First off, HollywoodLies likes running scandalous and sensational content regardless of accuracy, especially as it relates to Bieber and Gomez. It thrives on drama. Second, the outlet doesn't actually have "sources" and "insiders," so it has no idea whether the allegations are true and doesn't let a little thing like fact-checking get in its way. Gossip Cop is the opposite. We don't run scandalous and sensational content if it is without accuracy, we do have real contacts, and we pride ourselves on fact-checking.
So, what's true about these assertions? Kardashian was indeed in Park City earlier this month. And Bieber was there, too, around the same time. What's untrue about these assertions? Everything else. Kardashian and Bieber's fling has been done for more than a year. They are not "flirty texting." In fact, Kardashian is now in a serious relationship with boyfriend Younes Bendjima.
As for Bieber and Gomez, Gossip Cop is told by a Gomez insider on background that there hasn't been any dispute over the "KUWTK" star. But we won't be surprised if in a few hours or in a few days HollywoodLies goes from "reportedly" to claiming it has its own insight on this non-issue. Just know it'll be totally bogus.
Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
