A story about Selena Gomez hoping Justin Bieber's engagement puts "Jelena" to rest was made-up. It comes from a site known for fabricating "exclusives" about the former couple. Gossip Cop can explain why fans shouldn't trust this report.
According to HollywoodLife, Gomez "wants to cut all ties of association" with Bieber in the wake of his engagement to Hailey Baldwin. A so-called "source close to Sel" is quoted as saying, "Selena really just wants to get on with her life. She doesn't want to be part of the Justin circus anymore." The site and its supposed snitch go on to blame the stars' fans for the ongoing "Jelena" obsession, and maintain, "She's over it."
"She's hoping now that he's engaged to Hailey, everybody will finally lay the whole 'Jelena' thing to rest. Selena doesn't want to be linked to Justin forever," contends the alleged tipster. This untraceable snitch asserts, "She's put that chapter firmly behind her now, and she just wishes everyone else would too." That begs the question then: Why would a "source" close to her even discuss this topic with a gossip outlet if Gomez just wants the attention to end?
It would be understandable if Gomez did want people to stop fixating on her and Bieber as their lives go in different directions. But the way to go about that wouldn't be having an anonymous person supposedly "close" to her diss their fans to a blog she openly despises. In fact, this website is guilty of continuing their association. Since Bieber's engagement was revealed on July 8, the online publication has peddled more than a dozen related stories, some of them purportedly "exclusive."
But it's hard to believe the site has any unique insight or inside knowledge given how the songstress has spoken about HollywoodLies, as it's nicknamed, in the past. Gomez told Billboard in an interview that the blog is "worst," and warned fans on Instagram that it is "never true, ever." That's evident in the outlet's past "reporting."
Last year, HollywoodLies flip-flopped on whether Gomez was pregnant, and in May, the website was caught lying about Bieber and Gomez going to the Met Gala. The online publication was also wrong about the reason Gomez and Bieber split. This is just a small sampling of illegitimate tales the site has spread.
The notion that this blog has obtained a credible, authentic scoop on how Gomez is feeling about "Jelena" simply isn't believable. This just appears to be yet another attempt to exploit both the actress and Bieber by riling up their fans. All would be better served if HollywoodLies said nothing at all.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
