Selena Gomez did not say she'll be "single for the rest of her life" in response to Justin Bieber getting engaged to Hailey Baldwin, despite a misleading and inaccurate report. Gossip Cop can set the record straight. A blog is simply using the singer's words completely out of context.
On Tuesday, BuzzFeed released an interview with the cast of Hotel Transylvania 3 in which they played a game of "Would You Rather." One of the questions stated, "Would you rather find out the love of your life is a vampire who needs to drink a gallon of your blood every night to survive, or be single for the rest of your life?" Gomez answered with a laugh, "I think I'm gonna be single for the rest of my life."
The actual interview took place during a press day event for Hotel Transylvania 3 back in April. BuzzFeed tells Gossip Cop it was shot on April 11 to be exact. The video was only put online this week because the animated movie hits theaters Friday. HollywoodLife, however, is making the absurd claim that Gomez's comment was in reaction to Bieber's engagement news. "Selena Gomez Confesses She'll Be 'Single For The Rest Of Her Life' After JB's Engagement," reads a new headline on the site.
The unreliable outlet maintains that Gomez was asked "a relationship question amidst her ex's recent engagement news," but the footage was shot months ago. Still, the blog writes, "What to do when your ex gets engaged? Well, Selena Gomez just deemed herself 'single for life.'" Not only did the singer make the comment well before Bieber's engagement, but the blog is also using the quote ridiculously out of context.
While playing a game, Gomez was given the options of being "single for life" or settling down with a vampire who has to "drink a gallon of your blood every night to survive." She chose the first scenario. HollwoodLies, as it's been nicknamed, is trying to make it seem as if Gomez gave that answer after being asked about Bieber's engagement. The only story here is that the singer played a game of "Would You Rather" while promoting Hotel Transylvania 3. The site's attempt to arbitrarily link the interview to her ex is just ludicrous.
As Gossip Cop frequently points out, this story is coming from the same blog that Gomez called "the worst" in a 2015 interview with Billboard. Considering that the blog took a game the singer played while promoting a movie and twisted it into an article about her ex's engagement, it's easy to see why she feels that way.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
