Selena Gomez and The Weeknd are not fighting over custody of the dog that she adopted while they were a couple, despite an inaccurate tabloid report. Gossip Cop looked into the situation and we can exclusively set the record straight.
Gomez took home a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy named Charlie back in September while she was still dating The Weeknd, and now according to Life & Style, the exes are fighting over who gets to keep the dog. A so-called “source” tells the magazine, “Selena is angry because she feels like it was more of a gift from Abel to her than a mutually adopted pet, so she’s determined to keep it.”
The outlet’s questionable insider adds, “He thinks Selena won’t be able to take care of Charlie as well as he will because of her schedule,” but his ex-girlfriend refuses to give up the pup. However, a source close to the situation exclusively assures us that the dog has always belonged to Gomez, and her ex isn’t trying to take the animal.
Even back when the two singers were still together, Gomez was the only one who was spotted out in public with the puppy, which she often brought to the set of her upcoming Woody Allen movie. Additionally, The Weeknd revealed on Instagram last month that he got his own dog, a Doberman Pinscher puppy. Regardless, there’s no custody battle over Charlie the spaniel.
Unfortunately, Life & Style has recently published several phony stories surrounding the pop star’s rekindled romance with Justin Bieber, so we’re not surprised by this bogus article. Gossip Cop called out the magazine last month for wrongly reporting that Gomez was becoming Bieber’s “pregnant bride.” Shortly after that, we busted the tabloid for falsely claiming Gomez and Bieber were living together. This latest story concerning her puppy is more lies.
