A website is purporting to know Selena Gomez's reaction to Charlie Puth alluding to a romance they shared. Although the story claims she's angry that he "went public," the report is actually made-up. Gossip Cop can bust it.
On Thursday, Billboard published a cover story featuring Puth, in which he talks about the duet he did with Gomez, "We Don't Talk Anymore." In his comments, he put emphasis on some of his other songs, leading people to assume those tracks were about her. "It's about a particular moment in my life, when someone very close to me wanted the attention of somebody else," he's quoted as saying. "When I found that out and we ended it, I might have done some shady things too, and she might have asked me, 'How long has this been going on?'"
Puth went on to say, "I don't kiss and tell, but the only way a song like that can come across as real is if there's something else going on behind the scenes. And that's what was happening. Very short-lived, very small, but very impactful. And it really messed me up." The singer-songwriter further said, "I'm trying to put this the best way possible: It wasn't like I was the only person on her mind. And I think I knew that going in — what I was getting myself into."
"She evoked such good emotion on that song, it was a pleasure working with her. That's why I'm always happy to sing it, even though it came from a dark point in my life," he added. Now HollywoodLife, also known as HollywoodLies for its tendency to fudge stories, is claiming to have "EXCLUSIVELY" learned "how she reacted to Charlie's huge reveal."
A so-called "source close to Selena" is quoted as saying, "Selena wishes Charlie would have kept his mouth shut about what they had because she is definitely interested in keeping that kind of stuff and her dating life as much under wraps as possible." That quote is laughable. For quite literally years, HollywoodLies has been claiming to have insight on Gomez's "dating life." The blog has wrongly linked her to Niall Horan and a slew of others, and lately has been pretending to be in-the-know when it comes to her relationship with Justin Bieber.
These tales typically reference a Gomez "source," who is supposedly revealing her intimate feelings. But now HollywoodLies wants readers to believe it has a "source" who is simultaneously asserting the singer-actress wants to keep her personal life "under wraps" while at the same time addressing her "dating life." If Gomez really wanted to keep her love life private, why would she have someone close to her blabbing to the blog all the time?
Well, the answer is that she doesn't. No one in her inner circle goes spilling to that site, an outlet she's publicly called out multiple times. In fact, Gomez called HollywoodLife "the worst" in her own Billboard cover story. As for Puth, she's insisted he's been her "friend only," something he's said in the past, too. However she feels about him now alleging otherwise, no one is sharing that reaction with HollywoodLies.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
