Selena Gomez's song "Bad Liar" is not about missing Justin Bieber, despite a new report. Gossip Cop can correct this speculative and wrong claim. The new single is actually about her new boyfriend The Weeknd.
According to the bad liars at HollywoodLife, Gomez's new single is about her "totally pining over an ex," namely Bieber. The often discredited outlet alleges the song's lyrics tell the story of a person "not being able to come to terms with a breakup." The site, which actually has some of the lyrics wrong, claims the person in the song is "having a lot of trouble moving on," and "trying not to think about the man in question."
Next, the webloid opines that "Bad Liar" sounds "sad," though Gomez appears "happier" these days. Then the site editorializes, "Let's just hope The Weeknd isn't too threatened by how deeply she still feels," before asking its readers, "Do you think The Weeknd is upset about Selena's new song?" The simple answer is no.
The song is not about Bieber. It's actually about The Weeknd, who Gomez was pining for while he was still dating Bella Hadid. Justin Tranter, the co-writer of "Bad Liar," tweeted, "You got some of the lyrics wrong, and it's actually about trying to hide magic feelings for someone new, but not being able to." Whoops.
Of course, HollywoodLies, as it is known, has a rich history of trying to rope Bieber into Gomez stories and vice versa. It seems the site has had a harder time dealing with their breakup several years ago than the two singers themselves. Gossip Cop has busted the webloid dozens and dozens of times for fabricating untrue tales about Gomez and Bieber, and you can easily find those articles on our site.
This time, however, we'll remind you what both the young singers think of that site's inaccurate reporting. Last year, Bieber wrote, "HollywoodLife is untruthful and hurtful" on Instagram. He followed that up with another post that read, "#hollywoodlifeisgarbage." Gomez, for her part, is on the same page. She previously said in an interview, "HollywoodLife is the worst." Who is Gossip Cop to argue?
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
