Is Scarlett Johansson "rushing to the altar" with Colin Jost? That's what a certain tabloid is claiming. But Gossip Cop can reveal the truth.
According to the National Enquirer, Johansson is "set to walk down the aisle for the third time." The supermarket tabloid contends, "Since connecting after the beauty's 'SNL' appearance earlier this year, the couple has kept their relationship low-key, but insiders reported Scarlett is ready to go public, and to the altar!" A so-called "snitch" is quoted as saying, "She's told Colin she wants to be married by early next year and he can't believe his luck!"
Why the rush? "Scarlett is a romantic at heart and wants to cap things off with a beautiful wedding," maintains the gossip magazine. Adds the supposed source, "She want something intimate and classy, not some huge glitzy affair that's over-the-top." In addition, the outlet cites an alleged "spy," who claims, "She wants to move quickly and make things official. She loves how much [Jost] makes her laugh, and can really picture them growing old together!"
It's highly suspicious that a "snitch" and a "spy," if they truly exist, would go to this particular tabloid with these assertions, as opposed to a reputable publication. It's also suspect that this tale comes just a week after the National Enquirer's sister outlet, Star, claimed Jost was ready to propose. Notably, that article said nothing about how Johansson felt about getting married. Now suddenly there's piece about her "rushing to the altar."
This is also the third questionable story this magazine has published about the couple since July. The dubious publication first got it wrong when it claimed "SNL" boss Lorne Michaels was angered over the cast hooking up with the show's celebrity hosts. Then there was an obviously made-up article about Johansson laughing at Jost's "dirty" talk. And now readers are being told to anticipate a wedding. Here's what fans can really expect going forward: The National Enquirer is going to peddle another report about Johansson and Jost, and it's going to be just as false as this new one and the two that came before it.
As Gossip Cop said last week, Johansson and Jost's relationship is completely casual and hardly exclusive. Far from being fast-paced and serious with a wedding on the horizon, the two are simply having fun as they get to know each other. And should their romance progress, it won't be gossip outlets like the Enquirer and Star with the accurate, real details.
Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
