Did Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost get engaged over Thanksgiving? That's the claim in one of this week's tabloids. Gossip Cop can set the record straight.
A headline in the latest issue of OK! reads, "Scarlett & Colin: Ready To Wed." The accompanying article says the couple of a year and a half are set to get married. An alleged insider tells the magazine, "There's buzz that Colin popped the question over Thanksgiving. Scarlett had just celebrated her birthday and this was the greatest gift she could have asked for."
The supposed source goes on to say that the "Saturday Night Live" star has grown close to the actress's 4-year-old daughter, which is among the reasons Johansson "thinks they're meant to be." From there, the questionable tipster says the pair are already planning their wedding. "Their friends want to see them go all-out," adds the seemingly phony insider, who further contends that the ceremony will take place sometime next year. "Everyone's just waiting for a save-the-date!"
Despite what the magazine's anonymous and untraceable "source" claims, a rep qualified to speak on Johansson's behalf says on the record that she's not engaged. Although the actress's romance with Jost appears to be going strong, the idea that they're in the stages of planning a wedding simply isn't true. If the actress and comedian do take the next step in their relationship, Gossip Cop will be sure to update, but they're not preparing to walk down the aisle at this time.
It's worth noting, OK! has already proven to have little insight into the actress's personal life. In October 2017, Gossip Cop called out the tabloid for falsely claiming that Johansson was dating chef Bobby Flay. The outlet didn't seem to realize that the actress was already seeing Jost at this time.
Meanwhile, the magazine's sister outlet, Star, also has a habit of making up stories about the actress's relationship with her boyfriend. We busted the magazine more than a year ago for wrongly reporting that Jost was preparing to propose to Johansson. That still hasn't happened.
OK!'s other sister publication, the National Enquirer, wrongly reported last year that Johansson and Jost were "rushing to the altar" and would be married by early 2018. That hasn't happened either. Sometimes the tabloids insist a celebrity couple is splitting, but in this case, the gossip media is in a rush to marry them off. The ongoing storyline isn't accurate.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
