One of this week's tabloids claims Scarlett Johansson is refusing to diet or exercise for her role in the upcoming Avengers spinoff that will center on her Black Widow character. The story is completely untrue. Gossip Cop can debunk it.
According to OK!, the actress "is planning to cut corners" when it comes to filming her first solo superhero movie. An alleged insider tells the outlet that instead of dieting and working out, the actress is going to leave the heavy lifting to her stunt doubles.
"Scarlett's no gym rat," says a supposed source, who further contends that Johansson "has no interest in gaining muscle or learning new fight moves just for a movie." The alleged tipster adds, "She wants to leave the dangerous stuff to the pros and focus more on the script and casting, and luckily she and the Marvel bosses are seeing eye to eye."
The tabloid's story is fairly illogical. Johansson has opened up in interviews about undergoing extensive training for all of the Avengers movies. Why exactly would she stop now that her character will finally be front and center? Additionally, it's not exactly as if Johansson needs to start from scratch to get into shape. The actress is coming off the heels of Avengers: Endgame, and Women's Health magazine even published an article about how "toned" Johansson looked at the film's red carpet premiere on Monday night.
It's also worth noting, there have been dozens of articles over the years detailing the actress's various diet and fitness routines for her action movies outside of the Marvel universe, including Ghost in the Shell and Lucy. When Johansson was asked in an interview about her "strict" workout regimen to prepare for roles, the actress said, "I actually appreciate that discipline. It helps me focus on my job." It's clear the actress is dedicated to her work, despite the tabloid alleging she's trying to "cut corners."
Despite the magazine's story being baseless, Gossip Cop still checked in with a source close to the situation, who confirms there's no truth to it. In fact, OK! has already proven to have little insight into the actress's involvement in the Marvel franchise. Back in 2017, we called out the publication for falsely claiming Johansson had refused to dye her hair red for the final two Avengers sequels.
The bogus story was written simply because the Black Widow character has blonde hair in the third and fourth installments of the franchise, unlike in the previous movies. The problem with the phony article, however, is that Johansson never actually dyed her hair red for any of the other films. The actress had worn an array of wigs in the previous installments. The tabloid's latest article, which targets the actress's physique instead of her hair color, is similarly untrue.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
