Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick are not headed for a divorce over Hugh Grant, despite a completely untrue tabloid report. Gossip Cop can debunk the ridiculous premise. It’s totally fabricated.

According to an article in NW this week, Broderick was furious when he supposedly learned that his wife had been secretly meeting up with Grant in New York City, while he was away starring in a play on the West End stage in London. A so-called “insider” is quoted as saying, “Matthew’s always hated Sarah Jessica’s friendship with Hugh,” so he “flipped out” when an unidentified friend told him she was spending time with Grant in New York.

The alleged insider adds, “They had an epic fight, with Sarah threatening to pack her bags and leave. It was one of the worst rows of their relationship.” It should be noted, the anonymous tipster doesn’t seem to know if Parker goes by “Sarah” or “Sarah Jessica.” It’s always a red flag when an “insider” can’t decide how to identify a person they supposedly know.

The unreliable outlet further contends that the “couple’s relationship has been rocky for some time,” and quotes the dubious insider again as saying, “Even when they’re under one roof, it’s like they’re living separate lives.” In reality, nothing could be further from the truth.

It was announced last week that Broderick and Parker will be returning to Broadway together in the revival of Neil Simon’s Plaza Suite, set to open in April 2020. The happy spouses will be performing eight shows a week together, so they’re hardly living “separate lives.” Unfortunately for NW, the magazine likely went to print with its bogus story before the news was announced.

Still, Gossip Cop ran the scenario involving Grant by Parker’s spokesperson, who dismissed it as “absurd.” The two co-starred together in the 2009 comedy Did You Hear About the Morgans?, but there’s no indication they’re particularly close these days. Regardless, we’re assured Parker and Broderick’s marriage is going strong.

It’s worth noting, this isn’t the first time a tabloid has maintained Grant was causing problems in a famous couple’s marriage. In April, New Idea falsely claimed Keith Urban was concerned about Nicole Kidman getting too close to Grant on the set of their HBO series The Undoing. There was no validity to that report either.

Nor is this the first time a tabloid has wrongly alleged Parker and Broderick were living separate lives. Gossip Cop busted the National Enquirer in July 2018 for making up a similar story. The actress’s own Instagram page provided plenty of evidence proving otherwise, including loving posts about her husband on their 21st anniversary.
