Is Sarah Jessica Parker teaming up with Lena Dunham to reboot “Sex and the City”? That’s the claim in one of this week’s tabloids. Gossip Cop can exclusively set the record straight.

According to Star, Parker is eager to bring her hit HBO show back to the small screen, but with a “politically correct” twist to fit in with the current climate. An alleged insider tells the magazine, “Sarah realizes that a movie with the original cast isn’t realistic, so she’s teamed up with Lena Dunham to reboot it as a streaming series, with a heavy focus on lesbian and Me Too-era issues.” Not only does the outlet fail to mention which streaming service will carry the show, but HBO owns the rights to “Sex and the City,” so the story doesn’t make much sense from the start.

Still, the supposed source goes on to say that the character of Samantha, played by Kim Cattrall on the original series, will undergo the most drastic change. “The sexy girl role would be 100 percent played by a trans actress or a transvestite,” says the questionable tipster. “And all the fashion will be environmentally sustainable.”

Gossip Cop, however, can confirm there won’t be a “PC” version of “Sex and the City” debuting anytime soon. The outlet’s article is based on claims from an anonymous and untraceable “source,” but we checked in with Parker’s spokesperson, who tells us on the record that it’s “false.” It’s safe to say that a rep qualified to speak the actress’s behalf knows more about her career plans than a tabloid’s so-called “insider.”

Meanwhile, there’s no indication that Parker and Dunham are collaborating on any projects together at all. It seems Dunham was dragged into this story based on her relationship with HBO. The actress created and starred on “Girls,” which was often compared to “Sex and the City,” and she’s the co-creator of the network’s new Jennifer Garner show “Camping.”

It’s also worth noting, if “Sex and the City” was returning to TV, it’s almost certain that one of the major Hollywood trade publications would have reported it. There’s not a single other outlet in the world claiming that Parker and Dunham are working on a reboot. There’s a very simple explanation why this story isn’t getting any coverage: it isn’t true.

Unfortunately, we’re not surprised by the magazine’s bogus story. Gossip Cop has also spent a lot of time debunking phony reports about a third move in the franchise. Last year, Star’s sister outlet, the National Enquirer, alleged that Parker was “killing off” Cattrall’s character to get Sex and the City 3 made. This latest article surrounding a reboot is equally fabricated.
