Are Sarah Jessica Parker and Cynthia Nixon really feuding over Nixon’s run for governor of New York? That’s the premise of a story in this week’s tabloids. But Gossip Cop can debunk the claim.
“SJP VS CYNTHIA,” reads an all-caps headline in the latest edition of OK! Australia. Yes, a publication based on the other side of the world is purporting to have insight on the governor’s race in New York, and how it’s affecting Nixon’s relationship with her “Sex and the City” co-star. According to the article, Parker has “fallen out” with Nixon over her campaign.
A so-called “source” alleges the former colleagues “aren’t even speaking any more,” because Nixon supposedly believes Parker isn’t “doing enough to support her campaign.” Maintains this untraceable tipster, “Cynthia believed she would be getting more support.” It’s not clear what that means exactly, or how Parker has fallen short. But the magazine asserts it’s a “huge turnaround,” because Parker recently defended Nixon as “brilliant” and “willing to learn.”
What changed then? Tellingly, the outlet never says. The publication also does a disservice to readers by making it seem like that’s all the actress has said on the subject. Parker actually first endorsed Nixon on Instagram back in March, after Nixon officially announced her run. Parker’s message said in part, “My sister on and off screen, you have my love, support and vote.”
Parker again discussed her endorsement in April, telling Vanity Fair, “There is policy that matters to her. She’s concerned about where our dollars and how are dollars are being spent. And like many formidable women, she decided now was the time to talk about those things. It’s exciting.” She added, “We’ve been friends since we were 11 years old. So I’m really proud of her.” None of this is mentioned in the tabloid’s story, which doesn’t even provide context for the brief comments it does reference.
So allow Gossip Cop to fill in the missing information: Parker supported Nixon and addressed her pal’s critics during a podcast for Goop, and gave an impassioned defense of Nixon’s decision to run for New York’s highest office. That was just two weeks ago. Now suddenly they have “beef” between them?
There is not a single shred of evidence to support such a narrative, while there is substantial proof that Nixon still has Parker in her corner. A rep for Parker, who is qualified to speak on her behalf, also tells Gossip Cop that claims of a “falling out” between her and Nixon are “false.” The spokesperson further directed us to the aforementioned podcast, in which Parker champions Nixon’s campaign. A spokeswoman for Cynthia For New York similarly dismissed these feud claims to Gossip Cop, telling us, “Cynthia is thrilled by Sarah Jessica’s early and ongoing support, and the two have texted as recently as a couple of days ago even though Sarah Jessica is [currently] overseas.”
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
