Sara Carson and her dog Hero brought the waterworks on “America’s Got Talent” on Tuesday when her act divided the judges. Watch the video below!

Before taking the stage, Sara explained her bond with animals helped her overcome shyness. But her military-focused family did not believe dog training was a real career and cut ties with her. Then pooch Hero came into her life to “give [her] a purpose again.” She confessed, “If it wasn’t for Hero, I probably wouldn’t be here right now.”

When she and the 5-year-old dog took the stage, Sara was asked what she would do with the $1 million prize. “Honestly, I would use the money to show people how to train their dogs with positive reinforcement and [how to] have fun with them,” she said. She and her canine sidekick then did a routine where they had a (play) sword fight. The audience was delighted and Simon Cowell gave a standing ovation.

And that’s where the drama began. Howie Mandel, comparing her to Medieval Times, said, “If they took that concept and made a one-woman-show, that’s what I think it would be. I didn’t see an amazing trick.” And Mel B remarked, “I think I’m gonna have to kinda agree with Howie.”

Cowell was stunned. “They had a sword fight! I’ve never seen a dog have a sword fight with its owner before. And I felt Hero was singing along with the music. Maybe they don’t quite understand it,” the mogul said. But after Mandel and Mel B both gave a “no,” Sara burst into tears.

“We don’t want to make anyone feel terrible,” Mandel acknowledged. And then Cowell went on stage. He told his colleagues, “Look, I’ve never done this before. Never. But I’m asking you, on behalf of Sara and Hero, Mel? Both of you. Trust me on this. I saw something you didn’t see.”

Mandel conceded, saying, “I know people like dogs. I feel so bad. This is emotional. I’ll change it to a yes.” And Heidi Klum told Sara, “See, I would’ve wanted to see you again, anyway. You have a yes from me.” Mel B still wouldn’t change her vote, but with Mandel, Cowell and Klum, Sara was through to the next round. Check out the video below!
