Saoirse Ronan opened her “SNL” monologue by talking about how she’s Irish and how her name is difficult to pronounce. Cast members tried to pronounce her first name, but they couldn’t get it, so she sang about a song about it. See the video below of Ronan’s “Saturday Night Live” monologue.

This marks Ronan’s first time as the host of “SNL.” And while its her debut on the sketch comedy show, she’s been a fan of the program for years. Ronan noted earlier this week during an appearance on “Late Night With Seth Meyers” that she loved all of his skits. Meyers, of course, was the head writer of “SNL” before getting his own talk show. During her interview, Ronan mentioned she loved pretty much everything former cast member Kristen Wiig did, including her recurring characters like the “Target Lady.”

Interestingly, even though Ronan is known as an Irish actress, she was actually born in New York. She and her parents lived in the Bronx until she was three years old before moving to Ireland. Ronan reportedly now lives back in New York.

Although just 23, Ronan has already been nominated twice for Academy Awards. Her first Oscar nomination was for Best Supporting Actress for the 2007 film Atonement. She was next up for Best Actress for her work in the 2015 movie Brooklyn. Now, Ronan is on “Saturday Night Live” in support of her starring role in Lady Bird, which is already receiving a ton of Oscar buzz.

In the coming-of-age film, Ronan stars as a senior at a Catholic high school in Sacramento, California. “Lady Bird,” as she’s known, has issues with her parents, as well as her fair share of up-and-downs with friends. And part of her maturation in the film also involves her becoming a sexual being and looking to go to college out of state.
