A tabloid claims Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves had a secret romance back in the '90s, but it ultimately ended in heartbreak. Nothing about the story is remotely factual. Gossip Cop can confirm the former co-stars and longtime friends never dated.
"Sandra & Keanu: Their Untold Love Story" reads the cover of this week's Star. The reason it's "untold" is because it's untrue, but according to the outlet, Bullock and Reeves were secretly hooking up while filming 1994's Speed. A supposed insider tells the magazine that they continued seeing each other after shooting wrapped, "and the more time they spent together, the closer they became. It was new and exciting. Keanu showered Sandra with gifts and sweet gestures, and she totally fell for him."
The supposed source further contends that their "low-key" relationship lasted until 1996, when Reeves turned down the opportunity to co-star in Speed 2: Cruise Control. Bullock returned for the sequel, but the actor passed on the project because he wasn't happy with the script. Reeves' decision supposedly destroyed their "romance," according to the suspicious tipster. "Sandra felt heartbroken and rejected. She couldn't understand why he didn't want to star alongside her again."
The seemingly phony insider continues, "She was asking herself if he'd met someone else - back then, Keanu was one of Hollywood's biggest heartthrobs and had his pick of women." The so-called "source" goes on to say that Bullock and Reeves went their separate ways following the situation, leaving the actress "devastated because she thought he might be the one who got away." The tabloid concludes its piece by saying the co-stars repaired their friendship when they reunited for 2006's The Lake House, which was "Keanu's way of apologizing" for turning down Speed 2.
The tabloid's saga is total fiction. Bullock and Reeves have had an enduring friendship for 25 years, but there's never been a romance between them. In fact, the actress revealed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show last year that she had a crush on Reeves while filming Speed, but it never went anywhere. Bullock further noted the reason they've been friends "for that long" is because they never dated. When Reeves appeared on DeGeneres' talk show this past June, he admitted to having a crush on the actress as well, but confirmed he never acted on it. "We were working!" Reeves asserted when he was pressed on the subject. Additionally, reps for both stars also deny they've ever been a couple.
Star is the same tabloid that Gossip Cop busted in June for falsely claiming Angelina Jolie had asked Reeves out on a date, and he agreed to it. That report was a complete fabrication. Back in 2017, the publication wrongly reported Bullock was planning a wedding and adopting a baby with boyfriend Bryan Randall. Neither of those scenarios panned out. The magazine has zero insight into what's happening in Bullock and Reeves' personal lives, whether it be 25 years ago or today.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
