Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves have remained friends since co-starring in Speed 25 years ago, but the tabloids are constantly trying to create a romance between the pair. The two will be forever linked by their hit movie, but they've never dated. Here are a few wrong stories Gossip Cop has debunked about their relationship.
In January, OK! published an article alleging Bullock was "torn" between Reeves and Bryan Randall, her boyfriend of three years. The tabloid insisted Bullock and Reeves were meeting up and hanging out late into the night, and Randall was unhappy about it. The outlet quoted what it described as an "insider" as saying, "[Randall] loves Sandra and worships the ground she walks on, but there's only so much he can take."
The story was concocted simply because Bullock had revealed in an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she had a crush on Reeves when they filmed Speed in 1994. The actress also noted that they never dated and are longtime friends, but the magazine left that part out. Bullock's rep assured Gossip Cop there was no "love triangle" between the actress, her boyfriend and her former co-star. Meanwhile, Bullock and Randall are still very much together.
A few months later, in May, Woman's Day claimed Bullock and Reeves were in love and Reeves was "sussing out" the possibility of making a "go for it" with his former co-star. The article came after Reeves made an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and responded to Bullock's comments, admitting he also had a crush on her while making Speed. From there, the tabloid spun a web of lies by quoting a so-called "insider" as saying, "When Sandra heard what Keanu had said there was an undeniable knot of excitement in her tummy."
Like the article in January, this one was also completely fabricated. The tabloid took comments from both stars from their respective talk show appearances, which took place months apart, and created a made-up narrative around it. As Gossip Cop pointed out at the time, while the false premise was partially based on Bullock's appearance on DeGeneres' show, it conveniently omitted when the actress said, "I think we're probably friends for that long because we didn't [date]." Clearly she isn't harboring feelings 25 years later. Also - she is still dating Randall.
Earlier this month, Star published a report alleging Reeves and Bullock had a secret romance in the 1990s that ended in heartbreak. The tabloid contended the two secretly dated while filming Speed, quoting a supposed source as saying, "The more time they spent together, the closer they became. It was new and exciting. Keanu showered Sandra with gifts and sweet gestures, and she totally fell for him." The so-called "insider" went on to insist, wrongly, that the relationship lasted for two years and ended in "heartbreak" when Reeves turned down reprising his role in Speed 2.
Just like those other stories, Gossip Cop stepped in to set the record straight. As noted above, Bullock had made it clear on DeGeneres' talks show that she and Reeves never dated. The actor himself explained during his appearance that "they were working," so he never made a move or acted on his crush. Reeves further confirmed they have always just been friends. Additionally, spokespeople for both stars went on the record to deny they've ever had a romance. The tabloids may want Bullock and Reeves to be a couple because it would sell more papers, but it's never been the case.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
