“Outlander” stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe appeared on “The View” on Thursday to tease the return of the hit series. They even shared a sneak peek at season three. Watch the video below!

After the beloved co-stars came out, Sara Haines noted there was actually a “woman crying in the audience.” Though that fan was obviously familiar with the Starz show, she asked the pair to briefly explain the series. Heughan immediately mentioned that it’s based on Diana Gabaldon’s books, which received cheers from the crowd, and described how Balfe’s character, Claire, is a 1940s nurse, who goes to Scotland to work on her marriage, but is “magically transported” to the 1700s, where she meets Jamie, a Scottish Highlander. “Romance and adventure ensues,” he added, which is actually a bit of an understatement.

After filming in Scotland for most of the program thus far, production shifted to South Africa for the new episodes. “The sun was there. This yellow thing in the sky,” Balfe happily noted, amusingly adding that they were all “SPFed up to 50 everywhere.” Whoopi Goldberg said there’s a lot of “strong women” on television right now, and argued that the actress’ alter ego has “joined these ranks.” Said Balfe, “This was a dream role. What I love about her is that she is so strong, but when she encounters misogyny or when she encounters someone telling her she can’t do something, she uses it as fuel. She takes that and she says, ‘You know what? I’m gonna prove you wrong and I’m gonna make myself be heard.'”

And the clip they had to offer, she pointed out, was a “perfect example of that,” as it featured Claire showing her intellect to a Harvard professor who then warned her husband that he should “pay closer attention to your wife’s reading habits.” Of course, the show’s steamy sex scenes also came up in the chat. Jedediah Bila noted that the characters are now 20 years older, and asked, “Is the sex better in your 40s than it was in your 20s?” Heughan, who is actually 37 in real life, responded, “It’s a good question.”

Balfe, who is the same age, tellingly offered, “Experience is worth a lot.” Haines concluded, “That’s a good teaser for what’s to come.” And to the audience’s delight, everyone was given an “Outlander” gift bag. Watch the video below!
