Did Ryan Seacrest invite Mariah Carey to perform on “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” 2019? That’s the claim in one of the tabloids. Gossip Cop can set the record straight.

Carey made headlines two years ago following a disastrous performance on ABC’s annual New Year’s show in Times Square. The singer stumbled her way through her set and was caught lip-synching due to a defective ear piece which left her unable to hear the music. Fortunately, Carey returned the following year and redeemed herself.

Seacrest will once again host this year’s show, and according to the National Enquirer, he’s eager for the singer to make yet another appearance. A supposed source tells the outlet, “He wants to start a new holiday tradition and have her appear every year. Mariah has a new CD out, so the timing is good, but she has scheduling conflicts that need to be worked out.”

Gossip Cop, however, reached out to a source close to Seacrest, who tells us on the condition of anonymity that the story is “untrue.” The TV personality hasn’t invited Carey back on the New Year’s show. The main reason Carey returned to the show last year was to redeem herself after botching her performance the year prior. The singer pulled it off as everything went smoothly when she helped ring in 2018. Carey simply wasn’t offered a spot for the 2019 show.

In fact, it was reported last week that Carey will celebrate New Year’s with a performance in St. Barts. The singer told Us Weekly, “I am excited to ring in the new year at Nikki Beach with my family, loved ones and everyone who joins the festivities!” She added, “St. Barts is a special island and it will be a great place to start 2019.”

As for the lineup of “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” 2019, some of the musicians slated to perform include Ciara, Camila Cabello, Shawn Mendes, Halsey, Kelsea Ballerini, The Chainsmokers, Charlie Puth, Macklemore and Weezer, to name a few. Dozens of reputable news outlets have provided updates on who’s participating in the event, but Carey’s name hasn’t been mentioned by any publication aside from the Enquirer.

Of course, we’re not surprised by the tabloid’s bogus story. Gossip Cop has called out the magazine more than once for falsely claiming that Seacrest was quitting “Live” over a supposed feud with co-host Kelly Ripa. Time has proven that narrative to be completely false. This latest report is no more accurate.
