Ryan Phillippe is vehemently denying the domestic violence claims brought against him by ex-girlfriend Elsie Hewitt, who alleged the actor assaulted her during an altercation earlier this year. In a statement to Gossip Cop, Phillippe's rep calls the model's accusations "fabricated" and "false."
As Gossip Cop reported, Hewitt got a protective order against Phillippe in July after telling the LAPD the actor hit, kicked and threw her down a flight of stairs. He was forced to stay 100 yards away from the model, but the temporary order was lifted a few days later. The actor is now responding on the record to the claims and denying any wrongdoing. Phillippe's rep tells us in a statement, "As a staunch advocate for the health, well-being and equality of women, Ryan is completely devastated that these false allegations have been made and circulated. Domestic violence is an incredibly serious issue and fabricated and proven false claims should not be used to unjustly slander the falsely accused. The claims are false."
As Gossip Cop noted, a source close to Phillippe rejected Hewitt's account of events as soon as the story emerged Monday, telling us, "Elsie showed up to Ryan's house uninvited a few days after he had broken up with her," allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The source added, "She physically attacked Ryan, caused a scene and refused to leave his home. As she was ejected from [his home], she claims she fell and injured herself."
Hewitt is now suing Phillippe for $1 million in damages, alleging the actor caused her bodily harm. According to the the 21-year-old's lawsuit, the incident was sparked by Phillippe becoming jealous of the attention she was receiving from other men at a party on July 3. She maintains they argued about it, and the following day she went to retrieve her belongings from his home, where he allegedly threw her downs his stairs twice, resulting in injuries to her arms, knees and back.
Hewitt was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Hospital immediately following the incident and later filed a police report, which helped her obtain the protective order. The model also contends in her court papers that during her three months of dating Phillippe between April and July, the actor abused a variety of drugs, including cocaine and steroids. UPDATE: The actor also posted the below statement on Twitter, personally speaking about the situation for the first time.
