Russell Crowe is not lying about wearing fat suits for two of his recent roles, despite a ridiculous tabloid report. Gossip Cop can debunk the bogus story. It's total nonsense.

"Crowe On The Grow!" reads a headline in the latest issue of the Globe, which refers to the actor as "rotund" and further alleges he's "digging his grave with a knife and a fork." The story emerged after Crowe was photographed looking obese on the set of his upcoming movie Unhinged, in which he plays a man who terrorizes a mother following a road rage incident. Despite his hefty appearance, the actor was wearing a padded costume to portray his character.

Crowe also donned a fat suit for his role as late Fox News chief Roger Ailes in the Showtime series The Loudest Voice. The outlet, however, once again insists that the actor didn't really need any extra padding to get into character. The tabloid's assertions are simply baseless.

Last month, Crowe revealed in an interview with the New Zealand outlet Stuff that he did intentionally gain weight to play Ailes, but not quite enough to pull off the role. The actor explained "I worked out the mathematics of Roger; how high he was as to how wide he was and I really tried to have that same geometric ratio, but I'm taller than him and I didn't quite get there so I also used a fat suit." Simply put, the actor isn't embarrassed to pack on the pounds for a role, so he'd have no reason to lie about doing so.

Meanwhile, when photos of Crowe looking heavy on the set of Unhinged first emerged in July, dozens of media outlets noted that he was wearing a fat suit. The Globe is the only publication in the world suggesting he wasn't. The New York Post even wrote, "Crowe has a rounder frame, which appears to be a fat suit as he was photographed last month looking notably thinner." The actor did in fact look much slimmer while on the recent press tour for The Loudest Voice. Gossip Cop also checked in with a source close to the actor, who confirms his use of fat suits.

It's also worth noting, the Globe seems to be fixated on the actor's weight. Gossip Cop busted the tabloid in February for falsely claiming Crowe's friends feared he was "eating himself into the grave." That article also referenced The Loudest Voice, but ignored the fact that the actor was wearing prosthetics for the TV show. This latest take on the subject is more nonsense.

Our Verdict

Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
