Robin Williams Murder

(National Enquirer)

Robin Williams was NOT “murdered,” despite an insensitive and flat-out wrong new tabloid cover story. Gossip Cop can exclusively bust the shameful report.

The new issue of the National Enquirer, which hit newsstands on Wednesday, features a despicable cover exclaiming, “IT WAS MURDER!” The cover further declares Williams was “ambushed” before he was supposedly “drugged and strangled,” after which the “killer staged [a] suicide scene.” The accompanying story asserts there’s “compelling evidence” that Williams “did not commit suicide, but was in fact murdered in his own home.”

All the allegations, however, are based on supposed “secret police files,” and the Enquirer claims to have “experts” — who have no legitimate connection to the case — who support its conclusion. The piece, however, repeatedly quotes just one “private investigator,” who says the police and coroner “didn’t go far enough, for whatever reason, in their probe” after Williams’ suicide last year. The Enquirer uses that one source to theorize other possible causes of death, such as murder and a drug overdose.

The whole thing is a sickening new low for the Enquirer, and that’s saying something, considering this is the same tabloid that, in the wake of Philip Seymour Hoffman’s death, ran a fabricated story falsely alleging the late actor was in a secret gay relationship. There’s little the Enquirer loves more than being exploitative AND morbid.

Regardless, the new claims about Williams are just not true, and we exclusively hear those in circle are “disgusting” by the Enquirer cover story. The on-scene investigation, the autopsy, and the toxicology reports all supported the same determination. Williams committed suicide. It’s a tragedy. Stories like this only make it worse.
