Was Robert Pattinson really told to keep his distance from Katy Perry by Orlando Bloom? That was a claim from a year ago today in one of the tabloids. Gossip Cop reported then it was a falsehood, and 12 months later it's clear that story was completely untrue.

On November 22, 2017, the National Enquirer maintained Bloom and Pattinson were fighting over Perry. To make its tall tale seem legitimate, the supermarket tabloid contended it had a "source" who alleged Bloom was upset that Pattinson supposedly went on "a few dates" with the singer and warned him to "back off." Meanwhile, the magazine's purported tipster claimed Perry was happy to be getting the "attention" from both men.

As Gossip Cop noted a full 365 days ago, the outlet provided no proof whatsoever that the face-off between Pattinson and Bloom ever took place. Glaringly, the magazine didn't mention where or when this supposed confrontation occurred. That's because there never was an incident between the two men who are friendly. Perry's rep, speaking on behalf of the singer, even told us at the time the tabloid's story was 100 percent made-up.

It also bears mentioning that the publication's premise was wrong from the start. Pattinson and Perry have never dated. In fact, Perry has even go on the record to say she's just friends with Pattinson. And in the year since the article inaccurately asserted the two men had a beef, Pattinson was pictured smiling alongside Bloom at the 2018 amfAR Gala in Los Angeles, where Perry was honored for her work in the fight against HIV and AIDS.

The outlet has not become any more reliable about Perry and Bloom in the intervening year. Earlier this month, for example, Gossip Cop busted the magazine when it falsely reported Bloom "betrayed" Perry by flirting with other women on a beach in Malibu. In that work of fiction, which asserted Bloom was "cavorting on the beach" with a "harem" of women, a supposed source was quoted as saying, "They'll be lucky if they make it to Thanksgiving together." Of course, it's Thanksgiving and Perry and Bloom are still together and were just seen celebrating her birthday a few weeks ago.

It appears the Enquirer also has little insight into Pattinson's love life. Shortly after incorrectly maintaining he and Bloom squared off over Perry, the tabloid wrongly claimed Pattinson and Emma Watson were dating. In that off-base story, the publication once again relied on an unnamed "source,"' who inaccurately alleged the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire co-stars were hopeful they could turn their budding romance "into something serious and long-term."

Gossip Cop sometimes revisit stories from a year ago to help visitors assess the accuracy of outlets' claims. As we pointed out a year ago, Pattinson and Bloom never had a feud over Perry. The only battle was the fight the tabloid had with the facts — and lost.

Our Verdict

Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
