Robert Pattinson and Katy Perry never dated, despite a report from a year ago claiming the two were a couple. Gossip Cop debunked the romance rumors when they first emerged. Time has proven that the actor and singer are still just friends.
On August 6, 2017, TMZ wrongly reported that Pattinson and Perry were dating after the two were spotted dining at the Sunset Tower Hotel's restaurant in Los Angeles. The website insisted that the two "got super cozy" during the meal and also mentioned that theHollywood hotspot is "very romantic." The outlet added, "There have been rumors the two started dating after Katy split from Orlando Bloom."
At the time of the article's publication 12 months ago, Gossip Cop was told by insiders connected to both stars that they're just very good friends. As time has shown, our sources are very reliable. It's now 365 days later, and it's clear that the singer and actor were never a romantic item. The two have known each other for years, but their relationship has always been platonic.
In the time since the story was written, both the actor and singer have went back out into the dating world. Earlier this year, Perry got back together with Orlando Bloom. And just last week, it was revealed that Pattinson is dating Suki Waterhouse. It should be noted, there's plenty of photos out there of both Pattinson and Perry showing PDA with their significant others. There are zero photos, however, of Pattinson and Perry showing PDA at any point in time.
It's also worth mentioning, TMZ is often reliable when it comes to celebrity reporting, but it missed the mark regarding the actor and singer's dynamic. No other reputable outlet, such as People and "Entertainment Tonight," ever claimed the two were dating. That's because they never were.
As Gossip Cop has noted in the past, the passage of time constantly works in our favor. TMZ, which does often break major scoops, decided to just speculate about the nature of Pattinson and Perry's relationship at this time last year. Instead, Gossip Cop checked in with our impeccable insiders, who weren't able to go on the record for a variety of reasons, but clearly knew the truth of the situation.
Unfortunately, the bogus romance rumors still continued to spread after our debunking. A week after TMZ's story, Gossip Cop busted OK! for similarly claiming that Perry and Pattinson were dating. That's simply never been the case for the longtime pals.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
