Did Robert Pattinson and Kate Beckinsale ever date? According to a report from one year ago today, the two British stars were a couple. But, as Gossip Cop noted then and time has proven us correct, Beckinsale and Pattinson were never in a romantic relationship.

On December 21, 2017, the Australian edition of OK! maintained Pattinson was yet "another cub" caught by "cougar" Beckinsale. And to push its false narrative, the tabloid had an unnamed and untraceable source say Beckinsale, who had dated comedian Matt Rife, who was half her age, clearly "she loves a younger man," and Pattinson definitely caught her "fancy." Then, after calling them a "new couple," the magazine reasoned they were perfect for each other, having played "the sexiest vampires" ever in movies.

Of course, Pattinson is best known for his role as Edward Cullen in the Twilight films, while Beckinsale appeared in the Underworld films. By that loony logic, Tom Hanks and Demi Moore should date because they both played U.S. soldiers. Regardless, at the time, Beckinsale's rep assured Gossip Cop on the record they were not dating, and a Pattinson pal also confirmed the story was untrue.

Basically, the tabloid saw a photo Beckinsale and Pattinson posing together a the GQ Men of the Year awards (above), and seemingly decided to come up with a love story. But the truth is the two have been nothing more than friends for a long time, and were even pictured together at the 2015 Met Gala and at Vanity Fair's annual Oscars party in 2009. Now 365 days have passed since the magazine falsely asserted Pattinson and Beckinsale were a couple, and it's obvious the publication was 100 percent wrong.

Additionally, in the past 12 months since that error, the outlet hasn't gotten much better with its reports about Pattinson. In June, for example, Gossip Cop busted the tabloid when it inaccurately contended Pattinson was dating Sienna Miller, who, along with his best friend Tom Sturridge, are the parents of a little girl named Marlowe. Miller's rep, speaking on behalf of the actress, told Gossip Cop her relationship with Pattinson was nothing other than platonic.

And OK!'s American edition has been no better either this past year with its articles about the actor. Gossip Cop corrected the publication, for example, when it absurdly claimed a few months ago that Pattinson was getting back together with Kristen Stewart. We also called out the tabloid for having untruthfully alleged Pattinson was crushing so hard on Margot Robbie that he was trying to get a role in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

As Gossip Cop has stated before, we sometimes revisit articles from a year ago to illustrate for readers how phony claims fall apart over time. In this instance, there were no other subsequent sightings of Beckinsale and Pattinson together, nor any legitimate stories about them dating. It wasn't true then, and it remains false to this day.

Our Verdict

Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
