Robert Pattinson is nominated for Best Male Lead at the 2018 Film Independent Spirit Awards, it was announced on Tuesday. The nomination is for his starring role in Good Time, which received five nominations in all.

The Independent Spirit Awards were started in 1984 to celebrate the best in independent cinema. The ceremony is typically held one day before the Oscars. Last year, Moonlight was awarded the top prize at both events, while Casey Affleck took home the male lead acting award on back to back days. Now Pattinson is at least in the running for one of them.

With the Oscar nominations still months away, the Spirit Awards held its nominations announcement today with the help of Tessa Thompson and Lily Collins. They revealed Pattinson is up for Best Male Lead, alongside Timothee Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name), Harris Dickinson (Beach Rats), James Franco (The Disaster Artist) and David Kaluuya (Get Out). Franco previously won Male Lead for 127 Hours in 2010, and was nominated for Best Supporting Male in 2008.

This time around, the Supporting Male contenders include Pattinson’s Good Time co-star and director, Benny Safdie. In addition, their colleague Taliah Lennice Webster scored a nod for Best Supporting Female. Safdie is also nominated for Best Editing with Ronald Bronstein, while he and brother Josh Safdie are among the nominees for Best Director. Interestingly, Good Time is not nominated for Best Feature, a category that includes Call Me By Your Name, Get Out, The Florida Project, Lady Bird and The Rider. Winners will be announced on March 3, with Nick Kroll and John Mulvaney hosting the awards show for the second year in a row.

As Gossip Cop has reported, Good Time is a crime thriller that takes place all in one crazy night. The Independent Spirit Awards nominations come one month after Pattinson and the film also scored nods for the Gotham Awards, which will be handed out next week.
