(Howard Stern Show)

Robert Pattinson made his “Howard Stern Show” debut Tuesday, during which he discussed his relationship with FKA Twigs, almost getting fired from Twilight, getting expelled from high school for selling porn and much more. Listen to highlights from the interview below!

The actor appeared on the SiriusXM show to promote his upcoming crime drama Good Time, in which he plays a small-time bank robber attempting to break his brother out of prison. When Stern asked the actor to confirm that he was engaged to singer FKA Twigs, who he’s been dating for nearly three years, Pattinson coyly responded, “Kind of.” The radio host responded, “Kind of?! Wait ’til she hears this! You’re one of those secretive guys with the relationships.”

Pattinson went on to admit that dating under public scrutiny is “one of the most frustrating things in the world” because he wants to be able to go out in public with his (“kind of”) fiancee, but he’s “stuck in this position whether you want to let kind of crazy people in.” The actor explained, “For whatever reason with Twilight, I don’t know if it’s a specific thing with the audience, but there’s like a crack troop of crazies who think every single decision you’re making is creating some kind of conspiracy.”

The actor also noted he tries to “protect” his private life by “creating a big boundary between” himself and the public, but admitted the strategy “then it makes it difficult for your actual relationship.” Pattinson went on to call FKA Twigs “amazing” and “super talented.”

Pattinson later revealed he was expelled from private school for stealing porno magazines from a local store and then selling them to the other students. “I was so cocky about it,” the actor acknowledged. He went on to recall getting caught because he forgot to zip up his bag after shoving the magazines inside, which led to the store clerk “pulling all these porno magazines out and I’m sitting there absolutely humiliated.”

The actor also spoke about nearly getting fired from the first Twilight movie because he insisted on playing vampire Edward Cullen as a “serious” character, despite the producers wanting him to be “happy and having fun.” He added, “Now the whole series is known as a brooding thing, but I remember the producers giving me the book and every singe instance where my character smiled, they’d highlight.”

Pattinson further revealed he stood his ground and kept acting solemnly until his agents “flew up and said you have to do the opposite of what you’re doing now or you’re going to get fired today.” The actor admitted he came back to set with a “big smile” after the warning, adding, “I was probably going a little bit too miserable, so some kind of compromise was made.” Listen to highlights below from Pattinson’s “Howard Stern Show” interview!
