Robert Pattinson hung out with James Franco on the red carpet of the Gotham Awards on Monday. Interestingly, Franco ended up besting Pattinson in the Best Actor category. Check out the photos below!

As Gossip Cop reported, it was announced last month ago that Pattinson was nominated for Best Actor for his leading role in Good Time. In the critically-acclaimed movie, the actor stars as a criminal who tries to his rescue his imprisoned brother after they fail to make a clean getaway from a bank robbery. Pattinson received rave reviews for his performance and, since the film was an independent production, it qualified for the Gotham Awards. In fact, Good Time also scored a nod for Best Feature.

Alas, both Pattinson and the movie itself lost in their respective categories. The top prize went to Call Me By Your Name, while Franco won Best Actor for The Disaster Artist. In that film, which he also directed and produced, Franco plays Tommy Wiseau, the real-life director of The Room. Like Pattinson and Good Time, Franco and The Disaster Artist have also received praise from critics and awards season buzz.

In fact, as Gossip Cop noted last week, Pattinson and Franco are competing against each other for Male Lead at the Independent Spirit Awards, which will be held in March. Notably, the rest of their competition mostly differs between the two awards shows. For the Gotham Awards, their fellow contenders were Willem Dafoe (The Florida Project), Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out), Adam Sandler (The Meyerowitz Stories) and the late Harry Dean Stanton (Lucky), but for the Indie Spirits, the opponents are Kaluuya, Timothee Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name) and Harris Dickinson (Beach Rats).

Fortunately, there’s no rivalry between Pattinson and Franco (or any of the men for that matter). Before heading into the Gotham Awards ceremony at Cipriani in Manhattan on Monday night, the two actors stopped to have a chat right on the red carpet. Pattinson also took the time to pose with Joana Vicente, the executive director of IFP, which puts on the event. Check out the photos below!
