Pattinson’s big day at the annual movie gathering began with a press conference for the film, for which he was joined by co-directors and brothers Ben and Josh Safdie. As Gossip Cop has reported, it was announced in April that Good Time would premiere at Cannes. The actor stars in the twisted crime thriller as one half of a sibling bank-robbing duo. When his brother is arrested during a bust gone wrong, Pattinson’s “Constantine ‘Connie’ Nikas spends a night desperately trying to get him out of jail.

At the press conference, Pattinson was revealed it was he who reached out to the filmmakers about potentially working together after looking into their most recent film, Heaven Knows What. “It’s so rare that you get those feelings and I just had to chase it down to the end,” he explained. Josh commented, “It was that openness that was so amazing to us that he was willing to say, ‘I’ll do whatever you want,’ and he meant it. And we took him up on that for sure.”

It is Ben himself who plays Pattinson’s brother, and while other names like Jennifer Jason Leigh and Barkhad Abdi also star, most who appear in Good Time are first-time actors. “A lot of their casting was street casting and I always wanted to look like I was street cast,” Pattinson admitted. He also discussed the challenge of shooting on the streets of New York, though it thankfully worked out.

“I was so nervous about people finding about the shoot and paparazzi being there, Pattinson said, explaining, “It destroys the whole illusion of it. Kind of what I was doing as a person was feeding into the character. Basically you’re trying to disappear, trying to be a ghost in a crowd. We shot the entire movie on the street in New York and not a single person even took a cell phone picture. It was crazy.”

The star also discussed his upcoming films. As Gossip Cop reported, it was announced at Cannes just days ago that Pattinson will star in The Souvenir, with Martin Scorsese producing. Now in addition to the Good Time press conference, he also stepped outside for the photo call and of course the film’s red carpet! Check out all the photos below!
