A story claiming Rob Kardashian laughed upon hearing Blac Chyna is starting a rap career was made up. And not only is it a fabrication, but this fake news could have serious legal consequences.

According to HollywoodLife, “Rob Kardashian is absolutely tickled by the idea of Blac Chyna as a rapper after reports came out that she signed a record deal. Now, he can’t stop laughing!” A so-called “insider” is quoted as saying, “Rob has had some major laughs thinking about Blac Chyna trying to rap. And even if she goes after Rob in her raps he thinks she will be so bad that it won’t matter because she will just be embarrassing herself. He is actually kind of looking forward to see her fail and thinks she will be even worse than K-Fed.”

The webloid goes on to ask readers, “HollywoodLifers, what do you think of Rob’s response to Blac trying to rap? Is he right, or just downright rude?” But the problem here isn’t with the Kardashian. It’s with HollywoodLies, which seemingly manufactured this story, and may have put Kardashian in legal jeopardy by doing so. Allow Gossip Cop to explain why this is a far more important case than the typical fake news story.

As Gossip Cop has reported, Chyna obtained a restraining order against Kardashian last month. But it is not just a physical stay-away order. In addition to not coming near his former fiancée, he is not allowed to contact her, post about her online, or harass her in any way. To be fair, these quotes from the outlet are not attributed to Kardashian directly. But, it could ostensibly be argued that having an “insider” bad-mouth Chyna on his behalf still counts as harassment.

Think about this logically: While Kardashian hasn’t always made the smartest decisions in the past, he is now bound by law and under legal advisement to not malign Chyna in any way. So why would he have an “insider” pass on his mocking response to her starting a rap career? He wouldn’t, and Gossip Cop is actually told he didn’t. But if Chyna’s camp wanted to, they could file a legal objection over this story, and accuse Kardashian of violating the restraining order by using a third party for the explicit purpose of harassment through planted stories.

If HollywoodLies used real journalists instead of serial fabricators as writers, it would have known this. Instead, the webloid apparently saw nothing wrong with crafting this kind of fictional tale using a made-up source, regardless of the consequences. This is a particularly shameful example of the problems with fake news.
