A certain website known for manufacturing stories is claiming to know the “truth” about whether Rihanna would agree to a joint tour with Chris Brown. This report was provably made-up. Gossip Cop can bust it.
On Friday, Brown raised eyebrows on Twitter when he tweeted, “Just thinking…. A CRAZY WORLD TOUR would BEYONCE, RIHANNA, BRUNO MARS, CHRIS BROWN. ‘2 for 2.’ And if y’all decide to do it without me… give me 10%.” That would indeed be a “crazy world tour,” in part due to Brown and Rihanna’s complicated history. He assaulted her in 2009, and for a time, a restraining order prohibited him from going near her. They briefly reunited romantically circa 2012/2013, a reconciliation that divided fans back then and still does today.
As such, fans have also been divided by Brown’s tweet suggesting a joint tour. And though he apparently just threw it out on social media as a random thought, HollywoodLife is claiming to know Rihanna’s reaction to the idea.”Would she ever even consider such a proposition?” asks the site, which asserts, “Now, thanks to our insiders, we’re getting some answers.”
A “source close to the songstress” is then quoted as saying, “This will never happen because Rihanna will never tour with Chris Brown.” Notice that this purported “insider” unnaturally used Brown’s full name. The blog’s alleged tipster goes on contend, “The fallout of that could easily be a major career hit… and she knows [her fans] don’t want her anywhere near Chris.”
Actually, that’s not the attitude the star herself has expressed in the past. When Rihanna spoke about her controversial reunion with Brown in a Rolling Stone cover story in 2013, she stated, “”I decided it was more important for me to be happy. I wasn’t going to let anybody’s opinion get in the way of that. Even if it’s a mistake, it’s my mistake. After being tormented for so many years, being angry and dark, I’d rather just live my truth and take the backlash. I can handle it.”
She made clear that, regardless of fan opinions, she was going to make her own choices. Rihanna has always lived and operated her career in that way. That said, it stands to reason that she would face backlash anew if she did decide to team up with Brown for a concert series, which is likely why the website’s concocted quotes focus on a potential “fallout” and “career hit.” It’s not irrational to assume there’d be some kind of consequence, at least in the court of public opinion.
The problem is that the site’s anonymous quotes and untraceable “source” don’t jive with what Rihanna herself has previously said on the record when it comes to Brown. Furthermore, Gossip Cop is told on background that no one in her camp discussed the situation with HollywoodLies, as the website is nicknamed. In fact, no one legitimately connected to Rihanna has addressed Brown’s tweet to any credible publication, so it’s laughable that this blog, of all places, wants people to believe it scored such an exclusive.
While the site refers to “our insiders,” Gossip Cop has a bevy of busts in our archives that prove its “insiders” are non-existent when it comes to Brown and Rihanna. Otherwise so many of its tales about the former couple wouldn’t be so demonstrably wrong. In addition, just last month, HollywoodLies spread false rumors about Rihanna being pregnant and claimed to know Brown’s reaction. Now that he is the one making headlines, the website is pretending to know her reaction. This isn’t about the “truth.” It’s about capitalizing on popular celebrities and hot topics with made-up related stories.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
