Rihanna never had a baby, despite a report a year ago claiming she “might be pregnant.” This story was fake news 365 days ago, and it’s still fake news today. Gossip Cop is taking a look back at the false rumor.
The allegation was manufactured by MediaTakeOut, which has a history of falsely impregnating Rihanna. In 2014, the blog even claimed it was willing to wager $10,000 that Rihanna was pregnant. Of course, she wasn’t. But the website has spread this narrative so many times, the alleged baby daddies have ranged from Drake to Leonardo DiCaprio to even Prince Harry.
Last July, the site focused on Hassan Jameel, alleging Rihanna “might be pregnant” with his baby. Like it often has in the past, MTO used paparazzi photos as the basis for its contention. After the performer was photographed outside a popular restaurant, the outlet maintained she was wearing a “maternity dress” and sporting a “fuller” face. The online publication went on to reference Jameel’s wealth, writing, “So getting pregnant might be a nice COME UP for her.”
As Gossip Cop pointed out 12 months ago, Rihanna isn’t exactly broke. More importantly, though, MediaFakeOut, as it is nicknamed, had no evidence that she was actually wearing a “maternity” outfit, and had no proof she expecting apart from the paparazzi snapshots. What’s more is that Vogue actually reported Rihanna was wearing a Fenty x Puma raincoat. She was showing off her own fashion collection, not flaunting a nonexistent pregnancy.
Now not only has nine months gone by, but a full year has passed and it’s abundantly clear that Rihanna was not pregnant, just as Gossip Cop had said. But instead of issuing a retraction or a correction, the site has gone on to spread similarly wrong claims. After continuing this untrue storyline throughout July, the blog again insisted Rihanna was pregnant in December and this past March. Each instance (see screengrabs below) amounted to nothing more than absurd speculation and body-shaming.
Then in June, the website abandoned the baby narrative for another misguided topic: MediaFakeOut wrongly announced Rihanna and Jameel had split. Gossip Cop busted that falsehood as well, and we were proven right this week when Rihanna and Jameel were photographed in Mexico one month after she supposedly dumped him. The couple could have a baby one day. They could break up next week. But this much is clear: Rihanna never had a baby and she was not pregnant this time last year.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
