Are Ricky Gervais and Kathie Lee Gifford co-starring on a sitcom together? That’s the claim in one of this week’s new tabloids, but Gossip Cop has exclusively learned the truth.

An article in the latest issue of the National Enquirer says the “Today” show host has been pitching a number of scripted television projects to network executives, but none have shown any interest. A supposed “source,” however, tells the magazine that Gervais thinks Gifford is “bloody hilarious” and wants to team up with her on a comedy series.

The outlet’s dubious insider adds, “They have tremendous chemistry! He loves guesting on ‘Today’ because they always giggle their butts off!” The seemingly phony source goes on to purport that Gervais has “created a genius idea where he marries a fictionalized KLG, who’d basically be playing herself.” But Gossip Cop looked into this random story about the odd pairing, and a rep for Gervais exclusively tells us he and Gifford have no sitcom in the works. We’re told the magazine’s report is simply “not true.”

Of course, the Enquirer has a habit of dreaming up imaginary TV projects, so we’re not particularly surprised by this tale of a fictitious Gervais/Gifford sitcom. Gossip Cop recently busted the tabloid for falsely claiming Alec Baldwin was planning a reality show surrounding his family life. We also debunked the publication’s phony story about a nonexistent “That ’70s Show” remake. Unless the Enquirer somehow gets in the business of producing television, don’t expect to see these programs on your TV listings anytime soon.
