One of this week's tabloids claims Richard Gere's wife, Alejandra Silva, is upset about his "old flames" coming forward and talking about their past trysts with her husband. The story is completely made-up. Gossip Cop can debunk it.
On an episode of "Watch What Happens Live" last week, Diane von Furstenberg admitted she had a brief fling with Gere back in the '80s. According to the Globe, the actor's wife - who gave birth to their first child last month - is furious over the fashion designer's revelation.
An alleged insider tells the magazine that Silva has now issued Gere an ultimatum: "Come clean on everything, or she'll leave and take their baby with her!" The outlet's supposed source adds, "Richard keeps telling Alejandra that he's no sex symbol, but she hates stuff like this. It makes her wonder what else Richard hasn't told her!"
The tabloid's story is based on claims from an anonymous and untraceable tipster, but Gossip Cop checked in with Gere's spokesperson, who tells us on the record that it's "nonsense." Despite what the outlet's seemingly imaginary "source" says, the actor's own rep confirms that his wife isn't upset about von Furstenberg's interview. We're further assured that Silva hasn't demanded that her husband "come clean" about his past romances.
The magazine's premise doesn't make much sense either. Why exactly would Silva, who was born in 1983, be upset about Gere's hookups from 30-plus years ago? The tabloid doesn't provide a logical reason as to why the Spanish activist is supposedly angry about her husband's dating history. That's because the report is fabricated.
Unfortunately, this isn't the first time we've had to debunk rumors of drama in the couple's relationship. Last February, Gossip Cop called out the Globe's sister publication, Star, for falsely claiming Julia Roberts was furious over Gere proposing to Silva. The magazine said the actor's Pretty Woman co-star was reeling over the engagement because she's in love with him.
At the time the story was published last year, Gere and Silva hadn't actually gotten engaged yet. And Roberts, who's been happily married for 16 years, certainly isn't in love with Gere. The former co-stars have been close friends for years, but their relationship is completely platonic.
Back in 2016, the Globe's other sister outlet RadarOnline made up a story about Gere quitting show business and moving to Europe with Silva. The actor is still working and lives in New York City with his wife. This latest article about the spouses is more fiction.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
