Reese Witherspoon's personal and professional life is often the subject of phony tabloid stories. Gossip Cop frequently debunks bogus reports about the actress. Here are five recent wrong rumors.
Earlier this month, Gossip Cop busted Life & Style for making up a story about Witherspoon getting into a fight with Nicole Kidman backstage at Keith Urban's concert. The story came on the heels of several other articles about the "Big Little Lies" co-stars supposedly feuding. It was said they argued backstage after a negative text about Kidman from another actress on their TV show popped up on Witherspoon's phone. The incident never occurred. The day after the concert, Witherspoon shared Instagram photos of her and Kidman hanging out backstage.
In August, Gossip Cop called out New Idea for falsely claiming that Witherspoon was trying to dethrone Ellen DeGeneres by launching her own talk show. The outlet further contended that DeGeneres was furious and planned to fight back. The premise was absurd, considering that Witherspoon's talk show is a nine-part DirecTV series featuring interviews with female trailblazers. It's a completely different format than DeGeneres' daily talk show and not in any competition with it. Regardless of the story not making sense, Witherspoon attended DeGeneres' 60th birthday party earlier this year, proving the two women are friends.
Gossip Cop debunked an NW cover story in June that falsely claimed Witherspoon and her husband Jim Toth were headed for divorce. Their supposed marriage problems were said to have stemmed from the actress being more focused on her career than their relationship. But the same week the story was published, Witherspoon paid tribute to her husband on Instagram in honor of Father's Day. The following month, Witherspoon posted on Instagram for her husband's birthday, writing, "Happy birthday to the best husband, friend, and father in the world !! I love you JT." And as time has definitively shown, the happy spouses are still together.
In May, Gossip Cop busted In Touch for alleging that Witherspoon was feuding with Meryl Streep on the set of the second season of "Big Little Lies." It was said there was a power struggle between the two actresses and Witherspoon was jealous of Streep joining the series. Streep's own spokesperson, however, told Gossip Cop that the two "couldn't love each other more." The following month, Witherspoon posted on Instagram in honor of Streep's birthday, writing, "Happy Birthday to this living legend!!!! Meryl - It is such a dream to get to work with you on #BigLittleLies."
And finally, Gossip Cop busted Star last December for making up a story about Witherspoon feuding with "Big Little Lies" co-star Laura Dern. It was said the two were having creative differences over the show and producers were trying their best to keep the peace between them. In reality, the actresses are very close friends. In February, Witherspoon wrote an Instagram post for Dern's birthday, writing, "Happiest of birthdays to my dear friend, @LauraDern!! You radiate beauty and light wherever you go!" A few months later, Witherspoon and her mom took a photo with Dern on the set of the HBO series.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
